INFORMATION ON THE GALWAY CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

A working group has been meeting for the past number of months with the view to establishing a co-operative structure which will give you – the fans – a real and meaningful say in the future of our club.

The co-op – COMHARCHUMANN SACAIR NA GAILLIMHE TEO (Galway Soccer Co-op) – will be launched in early December and has been guaranteed by the Board of Galway FC the initial appointment of a minimum of two members to the Board of the club with immediate effect.

The co-operative will work alongside the four existing stakeholders in the club – the Galway FA, GUST, Mervue United and Salthill Devon – to develop and strengthen the club that will be known from next season as Galway United Football Club.

The success of the co-operative is dependant on the support of the people of Galway, both “home” and “away”. The vision is to have the co-operative solely running and operating Galway United FC in the future, along the lines of the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain; Swansea City in Wales; and the entire German football league which are all fan-owned and fan-run clubs.

One City, One County, One Club – and one in which fans have a real say.

To find out more, please attend the launch – details to be announced soon – and more importantly join the co-op to make it, and the club we love, a real success on and off the field.

Jimmy Brennan, Keith Kelly, Nicola Deacy, Aine O’Connor, Thomas Quigley, Cliff Rowe and Pat Sweeney (working group).

Supporters of Galway United F.C. were saddened to hear of the death today of Stella O'Neill, Glenamaddy. The O'Neill family have a long association with our club. Stellas son Fergal made twenty one first team appearances for Galway United, from his debut in 1994. Fergals brother, Ken O'Neill, and Kens daughter Siobhàn Nì Neill, are regulars at home and away matches. Galway Soccer Co-Op offer our sympathies to the O'Neill family at this time. ...
