INFORMATION ON THE GALWAY CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
A working group has been meeting for the past number of months with the view to establishing a co-operative structure which will give you – the fans – a real and meaningful say in the future of our club.
The co-op – COMHARCHUMANN SACAIR NA GAILLIMHE TEO (Galway Soccer Co-op) – will be launched in early December and has been guaranteed by the Board of Galway FC the initial appointment of a minimum of two members to the Board of the club with immediate effect.
The co-operative will work alongside the four existing stakeholders in the club – the Galway FA, GUST, Mervue United and Salthill Devon – to develop and strengthen the club that will be known from next season as Galway United Football Club.
The success of the co-operative is dependant on the support of the people of Galway, both “home” and “away”. The vision is to have the co-operative solely running and operating Galway United FC in the future, along the lines of the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain; Swansea City in Wales; and the entire German football league which are all fan-owned and fan-run clubs.
One City, One County, One Club – and one in which fans have a real say.
To find out more, please attend the launch – details to be announced soon – and more importantly join the co-op to make it, and the club we love, a real success on and off the field.
